UZBEKISTAN AND UNWTO DISCUSS COOPERATION

Chairman of the State Tourism Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan Aziz Abduhakimov met with General Secretary of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Mr. T. Rifai on September 16. The meeting also saw elected General Secretary for the period 2018-2021. Mr. Z. Pololikashvili.

The meeting discussed main directions of further cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UNWTO. According to the results of the meeting, the parties agreed to develop "Country programme of tourism development in Uzbekistan", and sign it in November.

Following directions were defined as the main activities of the said Programme:

— promotion and branding of the national tourist product of Uzbekistan in the global tourism market;

— studying the experience of foreign states in the implementation of e-visa;

— conducting various trainings in the format of "training for trainers" and online courses for employees of tourism industry;

— development of the national tourism product and reaching new markets.

The adoption of this document is planned in the framework of the international tourism exhibition "World Travel Market - 2017" in London (United Kingdom) 6-8 Nov.

In addition, the parties agreed to attract grants of UNWTO.Themis Foundation. In particular, at the incipient stage it is proposed to implement the program on a preliminary assessment of institutions and centers specialized in the training of professionals in the field of tourism, according to the international standards.

In conclusion, the UNWTO leadership was invited to take part in the Tashkent international tourism fair "Tourism on the Silk Road", set to be held in Tashkent from 3 to 5 October.
