Uzbekistan and Canada: New Cooperation Prospects

Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva met with the newly appointed Ambassador of Canada Alan Hamson.

The Chairperson of the Senate warmly congratulated the Ambassador on his appointment to a high and responsible position and wished him success in his future work.

At the meeting, issues of further developing constructive cooperation between Uzbekistan and Canada were discussed, including increasing inter-parliamentary dialogue and expanding ties in the political, trade, economic, cultural, and humanitarian spheres. It was noted that trade and economic cooperation plays a vital role in relations between the two countries, and the need to implement promising projects in the mining, energy, oil and gas industries was emphasized. Views on cooperation in science, education, tourism, and the environmental sphere were exchanged. Particular attention was paid to interregional cooperation.

The importance of taking inter-parliamentary relations to a new level and establishing close cooperation between the relevant committees of the two countries’ legislative bodies through organizing mutual visits was also noted.

Following the meeting, the diplomat stated that he would use all opportunities and potential to develop relations between the two countries.
