Uzbek Maqom Artistry Shines on Global Stage at Ismailia International Folklore Festival in Egypt

From October 24 to 30, a creative delegation from the Jizzakh branch of the Uzbekistan National Maqom Art Center captivated audiences at the "Ismailia International Folklore Arts Festival" in Egypt, showcasing the nation’s rich musical heritage on a prominent international stage, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

The 25th edition of the festival brought together over 25 creative groups from Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Arab world, including Poland, Romania, Guinea, Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon, Algeria, Sri Lanka, and India. Each delegation presented performances highlighting their countries’ traditional music, dance, and cultural expressions, offering a dynamic platform for artistic exchange and cultural diplomacy.

Throughout the week-long event, local audiences and international visitors attended performances held at Sheikh Zayed Park, the Roman Theatre, Family Club, and other indoor and outdoor venues. The Uzbek ensemble’s renditions of classical maqom, performed with dutar and doira, along with vibrant displays of traditional attire, were widely praised as standout contributions by spectators and cultural experts alike.

Akram Mohamed Galal, Governor of Ismailia met with the Uzbek delegation and embassy representatives, commending the ensemble’s performances for their emotional depth and cultural resonance. "The compelling presentation of Uzbekistan’s national music and traditional arts has left a lasting impression. Events like this serve as vital instruments of cultural diplomacy, strengthening bonds between nations", - he said, extending an invitation for Uzbek artists to participate in future editions of the festival.

Participants emphasized that international cultural platforms such as this provide key opportunities to:

Promote Uzbekistan’s national heritage globally,

Develop young artists’ skills and expertise,

Foster experience-sharing and international collaboration,

Initiate joint projects at international festivals and seminars.

Through these initiatives, Uzbekistan’s Maqom artistry not only preserves traditional values but also elevates the country’s international profile, highlighting its creative potential on the world stage.
