TRAINING SEMINARS FOR COMMISSION MEMBERS

In Surkhondaryo Region, southern Uzbekistan, training seminars are being conducted on raising the legal awareness of the members of precinct electoral commissions and the effective work organization of these commissions.

At an event that took place at polling station No 243 in the town of Termez, A.Akhmedov, the chairman of Surkhandaryo district electoral commission No 9; G.Malikova, an expert of the Central Electoral Commission and chief of a department of the Academy of State Administrative Development under the Presidency of the Republic of Uzbekistan; and others have said that a national electoral system that conforms to international democratic standards has been created in Uzbekistan. This is confirmed in the work of precinct electoral commissions formed in localities on the basis of principles of freedom and democracy.

During the training seminar, experienced experts gave recommendations on issues of record-keeping at precinct electoral commissions, the equipping of polling stations, the compilation of voter lists, early voting and voting on election day as well as the promulgation of electoral legislation among voters. Attention was paid to the rights and authority of members of precinct electoral commissions, the significance of the institution of observers and the role of mass media in ensuring the openness and transparency of electoral processes.

“During the event, we consolidated our qualifications and knowledge about holding elections of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Recommendations on creating conditions for voters in precincts and equipping medical rooms were relevant,” says the chairman of precinct electoral commission No 243 in the town of Termez, Mukhtor Norqulov.

Such training seminars are being conducted in all the districts of the region.
