The President of Uzbekistan identifies priorities for a strategic partnership with the AIIB

On February 10, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a delegation led by the President and Chair of the Board of Directors of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) Zou Jiayi.

The President of Uzbekistan warmly congratulated the head of this reputable multilateral financial institution on assuming office.

Practical issues related to expanding the strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank were discussed in detail.

In recent years, multifaceted cooperation with the bank has been developing dynamically. The portfolio of implemented and prospective joint projects has exceeded $7 billion. Last year alone, financing volume exceeded $1 billion.

The President of Uzbekistan advocated for expanding productive interaction in such priority areas as support for the private sector, women’s and youth entrepreneurship, preparation and promotion of public-private partnership projects, assistance in implementing the poverty reduction programs, development of alternative energy, energy efficiency, water supply, the social sphere, and others.

The importance of the AIIB’s active participation in large-scale infrastructure projects of regional significance was emphasized.

In turn, Zou Jiayi highly praised the scale of the transformations underway in the country and expressed her readiness to continue providing comprehensive support for the ongoing reforms in New Uzbekistan.
