THE EGYPTIAN PRESS ABOUT THE LIBERALIZATION OF THE MEDIA IN UZBEKISTAN

In the Egyptian social and political newspaper "Al-Shabab Nile" (Young Egypt) and the popular science magazine "al-Aklam va al-Qutub" published an article devoted to the international conference in Tashkent on the theme "Strengthening the autonomy and independence of the media - a guarantee of freedom of speech and information.

As informs edition, the organizers of the event were the National Association of Electronic Mass Media of Uzbekistan together with the Parliamentary Commission for the management of the assets of the Public Fund for Support of NGOs and other civil society institutions under the Oliy Majlis, representatives of the OSCE, UNESCO and the Fund for Central Asia n. a. K.Adenauer and others.

In the material special attention is given to participation of more than 100 experts and professionals from 30 national government and public agencies, and more than 20 international organizations and foreign embassies, as well as 50 media representatives from all regions of the country in the forum.

The publication notes that in the framework of the conference held panel discussions on the improvement of the legislation of the media and the enforcement of legal acts in the field of media, strengthening their economic bases of activity as a factor of freedom and independence, role and importance of state support for the development of socio- oriented media.

The article brings an excerpt from an interview with foreign experts who share their views on the taken measures in Uzbekistan to ensure freedom of speech and the liberalization of the media.
