SEMINAR ON ISSUES OF DEVELOPMENT OF NATIONAL ELECTORAL SYSTEM

At the republican press centre for coverage of the elections of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, a seminar has been held by the Central Electoral Commission in cooperation with the Tashkent state university of law on the development of the national electoral system in the years of independence.

The seminar was attended by members of the Central Electoral Commission, teachers and students of the Tashkent state university of law, scholars of law and representatives of mass media.

Extensive practical experience relating to the formation and further development of legal bases for free and fair elections was gathered in the past period. Today the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan and laws “On elections of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan”, “On elections to the Oliy Majlis [parliament] of the Republic of Uzbekistan” “On elections to regional, district and town councils of people’s deputies”, “On political parties”, “On guarantees of citizens’ right to vote” and “On the Central Electoral Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan” are the legal basis for electoral processes.

Those who made speeches at the seminar said that rich practical experience gathered in elections held in the country was an important factor in evolutionary development towards perfection in conformity with international electoral standards, national electoral legislation and democratic reforms.

In accordance with a law dated 29 December 2015 “On making amendments and addenda to certain legal documents of the Republic of Uzbekistan”, changes and addenda made to the law “On elections of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan” serve to further improve the national electoral legislation on the basis of democratic principles.

At the event, speeches were made about work being done to prepare for the 4 December elections of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the role and importance of elections in the life of society and broad opportunities created in them for every citizen.
