SCO experts discuss information security issues

Tashkent hosts the Scientific and Expert Forum of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization on Information Security.

The event is attended by over 30 leading experts from relevant ministries and agencies, scientific, academic and analytical circles of the SCO member states.

ISRS Director Eldor Aripov focused on activities carried out in Uzbekistan aimed at developing a digital society, as well as countering threats in cyberspace. Thus, it was noted that a plan of practical actions to improve the cyber security system of Uzbekistan was approved. Within its framework, the Law “On cyber security”, which became the main document regulating relations in this area, was adopted.

“Information-communication technologies strengthen the material-technical base and stimulate socio-economic development, increasing the competitiveness and production potential of the economy and, most importantly, endow people with new knowledge, new skills”, concluded the ISRS Director.

“Uzbekistan stands for the unification of actions to counteract crimes on the Internet at the bilateral, regional and international levels”, the Minister for the Development of Information Technologies and Communications of Uzbekistan Sherzod Shermatov noted. According to the Minister, the reason for this is the frequent cases of cross-border challenges and threats to information and cyber security.

Mr. Shermatov expressed hope that the event will serve as a broad substantive discussion of the problems of ensuring information security in the SCO space, the practical implementation of the Agreement between the governments of the SCO member states on cooperation in international information security (of June 16, 2009) and the Plan of Interaction of the SCO Member States on International Information Security for 2022-2023.

The forum is held by the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan with the support of the Ministry for the Development of Information Technologies and Communications together with the Executive Committee of the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure.
