“Today our army not only protects the Fatherland’s borders and the people’s peace and tranquillity but it is also becoming a real school where a firm resolve is formed, where an ability to think independently, robust physical health and high human qualities are acquired and where practical professional skills are sharpened. In a word, army service is becoming a real school of bravery, steadfastness and loyalty to the Motherland.”
These are words of the country’s First President Islam Karimov, and these words were quoted at the opening of a festive event in Qashqadaryo Region on the theme of “My son is a defender of the Motherland”.
The event was held in the format of a video conference with the participation of representatives of the hokimiyat (governorate) of the region, the command of the south-western special military district, the regional department of the Mahalla (neighbourhood) public charity foundation, the region’s trade unions, the regional council of the Kamolot public youth movement, soldiers doing fixed-term military service in Qashqadaryo and Farghona Regions and also their parents.
It was said at the event that reforms being implemented in the country’s Armed Forces were giving their high results.
Soldiers spoke about their army life and conditions created there for them to acquire military knowledge and abilities. They held a conversation with their parents.
“My son is doing military service in Farghona Region. Today we saw him via a video link. We were given a certificate of merit for his exemplary service. And we are very glad about that. Hearing words of gratitude for our son made us happy. We say thanks to the state for making this conference possible and for the conditions created for our sons,” says R.Khojaqulova living in the town of Shahrisabz.
“I am proud that I am making my contribution to ensuring peace in my native country and the people’s tranquillity. During my service in the army my attitude to life changed, my horizons expanded. I became physically stronger and more disciplined. I am grateful to our national army for that. I have decided that after my fixed-term military service I will remain in the ranks of the Armed Forces and continue to serve our Motherland devotedly,” says private U.Abdullayev who was called up for military service from Farghona Region.
Songs performed by artistes about the Motherland, courage and bravery gave festive cheer to those gathered.
