In Surkhondaryo Region, too, thorough preparations are being made for the elections of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan which will take place on 4 December this year.
In accordance with the national legislation, Surkhondaryo electoral district No 9 was established for conducting this event of importance in the socio-political life of the country on the basis of principles of openness and fairness. The district’s electoral commission and its composition have been confirmed. A building and offices have been provided for the district electoral commission, and comfortable conditions have been created for its effective work in line with a resolution dated 9 September 2016 of the Central Electoral Commission “On declaring the beginning of an election campaign for the elections of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan”.
“At the commission’s first session that took place in the spirit of collegiality and openness, tasks were distributed to the members of the district electoral commission. A press centre has been formed for wide coverage of all the stages of the event. The district electoral commission’s members have been assigned to specific areas in order to provide practical help in organizing the elections,” says Firdavs Sharipov, a member of Surkhondaryo district electoral commission No 9 for conducting the elections of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On citizens’ self-governing bodies” says that worthy candidates should be put forward for membership of polling station commissions of neighbourhood citizens’ gatherings which will be established in the regions. Therefore, special attention is being paid to selecting candidates from people permanently residing in neighbourhoods who are responsible and command respect among the locals and who are well aware of the electoral legislation.
“On the initiative of our country’s First President Islam Karimov, a national electoral system that meets international standards and that serves as an important factor in people’s free expression of their will and their direct participation in building a law-governed democratic state has been created in our country. There are 833 neighbourhood citizens’ gatherings functioning in the region. Now active members of these neighbourhoods are carrying out tasks of organizing and conducting the elections in accordance with the national legislation,” says the chairman of the Surkhondaryo Regional department of the Mahalla public charity foundation, Orol Toshboyev.
