Meeting of the Executive Committee of the Inter-Parliamentary Union

Preparations are underway in Tashkent for one of the most significant events in global parliamentarism – the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

A meeting of the IPU Executive Committee, focusing on organizational matters, was held in Tashkent.

At the meeting, Tanzila Narbayeva, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, expressed her gratitude to the IPU leadership for agreeing to hold the Assembly in Uzbekistan. It was noted that hosting this event in the country represents international recognition of Uzbekistan’s democratic reforms.

The meeting underscored the importance of addressing issues such as achieving social justice, eradicating poverty, and protecting vulnerable segments of the population, as well as the need to strengthen inter-parliamentary cooperation in these areas.

It was noted that the Parliament of Uzbekistan is playing an increasingly active role within the Inter-Parliamentary Union, which fully supported President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s initiative to adopt the UN General Assembly resolution “Enhancing the role of parliaments in accelerating the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals”.
