FRIENDSHIP FOREST OPENS IN NAVOI REGION

Uzbek-Korean friendship forest opened in Karmana district of Navoi region.

As was noted at the opening ceremony, cooperation between Uzbekistan and South Korea has been developing in the cultural-humanitarian sphere along with other areas, for which agreements, reached during the meetings of heads of state of the two countries, serve as an important legal basis.

52 joint ventures, of which 9 are with South Korean investors, operate in Navoi region. Currently, flights to various countries of the world are carried out through the International logistical centre, organised on the basis of Navoi airport.

Opening of the forest has also been a demonstration of frank and amicable relations between the two countries. With the assistance of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), the Project for Greenery of the 140 ha territory attached to Navoi FIEZ (US$2.5 million) has been underway. Around 725 thousand US dollars are allocated from the State budget for greening of this area as well. Moreover, a greenhouse in 1 ha has been established under the South Korean standards within the project, all communications systems are ready for operation.

– We are glad, that implementation of this project, to be implemeted in 2013-2016, serves to increasing green zones along with further strengthening bilateral ties between our countries, – says director of KOICA Uzbekistan Office Im Jeong Hee. – A nursery for seedlings has been established, in which specialists of South Korea and Uzbekistan are involved. The forest will support improvement of climatic conditions and greening of desert areas.
