ANOTHER BATCH OF DRUGS HAS BEEN DESTROYED

Today in Tashkent in the framework of events dedicated to the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, held a campaign to destroy a large batch of drugs, which was withdrawn during the fight against drug trafficking.

In the presence of representatives of law enforcement and judicial authorities, public and mass media accredited in Uzbekistan, international organizations and the diplomatic corps in dedicated furnaces for that one of the industrial enterprises of the capital it was burned 1 ton 400 kilograms of drugs, including 133.3 kg - heroin, 775 kg - opium, 309 kg - marijuana, 93.2 kilograms - hashish, 84 kg - kuknar, as well as a large number of poppy straw, cannabis and psychotropic substances in the form of tablets and solutions.

As was noted at the event, Uzbekistan attaches great importance to the implementation of commitments to the international community to combat illicit drug trafficking. In February 1995, the country joined the UN Convention on Narcotic Drugs of 1961, Psychotropic Substances of 1971 against Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances of 1988. In 2000, the Law "On Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances", which main purpose is to counter illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, protection of the health of citizens and ensuring national security.

The drugs seized by law enforcement authorities of the country of illicit trafficking are being destroyed on a regular basis, which is an integral part of the government strategy to counter the penetration of "white death" in the republic. In May 1994 for the first time 14 tons of drugs were destroyed by burning. To date, the total figure of narcotic drugs destroyed in this way in Uzbekistan is 54 tons.

According to the National Information-Analytical Center on Drug Control under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan, in 2014 the number of crimes related to drug trafficking has made 6698 the facts. Of these 3062 crimes related to the sale, 607 - smuggling, 1320 - the cultivation of narcotic plants, 142 - maintenance of drug-houses and 1567 - other types of drug-related crimes.
In general, at the end of last year 2298 kg of drugs have been withdrawn from the illegal trafficking.

The priority is the prevention of drug abuse, promoting healthy lifestyles, particularly among young people. In this work, interact law enforcement agencies, authorities and governments, educational institutions, non-government organizations. Thus, today, the whole society is actively involved in the fight against drug addiction.
